Insulated Duct - Building Regs
Ducting is required to be insulated for all exhaust and intake ductwork and where it passes through unheated areas and loft spaces. The main reason is to eliminate the possibility of condensation forming inside the ducting as warm air passes through cold ducts. If you are considering a MVHR system installation, ensure that all of the required ducts are insulated.
The insulation of the ducting can be achieved in a number of ways:
1. Wrapping ducting with a layer of insulation that provides an R value of ≥0.625K/W per m² or insulation which is 25mm thick with a K Value of ≤0.04W/m K
2. Selecting Pre-Insuated ducting that comes ready to install and meets the appropriate performnce levels
If you don't insulate the correct ducting, water can form inside the ducting and drip back down to the unit, this can also cause mould growth inside and outside the ducting.
