How to design a MVHR System

How to Design an MVHR System

Designing a MVHR system for your home is a fantastic way to improve indoor air quality and energy efficiency! Whether you’re renovating, building an extension, or starting a new self-build project, it’s the perfect time to consider an MVHR system.

Here’s how to get it right…

1. Understand Your Home’s Needs

The first step is understanding your home. MVHR systems need to be tailored to your floor area, the number of occupants, and the layout of your home to ensure they deliver the right amount of fresh, filtered air.

An effective system will remove stale air and moisture while keeping your home comfortable all year round!

2. Choosing the Right Unit

The MVHR unit is the heart of the system, so it’s important to select one suited to your property size and airflow needs. The harder a unit works, the noisier it gets – and no one wants that! A general rule is to ensure the unit operates at no more than 60% capacity on constant trickle speed.

Best thing to do is get a specialist involved… Send your plans to our team and we’ll be in touch with a FREE MVHR System Proposal.

3. Planning Your Ducting

The ducting system connects every room in your home to the MVHR unit, extracting stale air and delivering fresh air where it’s needed.
You must consider…

•    Type and Size: Semi-rigid ducting is a great choice for DIY installations, thanks to its push-fit design. For quieter operation, larger-diameter ducting is recommended as smaller ducts can increase noise levels.
•    Placement: Think about your ceiling voids and where ducts can run with minimal bends or restrictions. This reduces resistance and ensures optimal airflow.

Again, getting advice from a specialist can make all the difference, ensuring the ducting is positioned correctly for maximum efficiency.

4. Budgeting and Design Help

MVHR systems are available at a range of price points, so there’s something for every budget. Not sure how much it might cost? Here at The Air Shop, we offer a 60-second quote tool, giving you a quick estimate!

The take home message is…

Installing an MVHR system is an excellent investment in your home and wellbeing. By getting the design right from the start, you can enjoy fresh, clean air and lower energy bills for years to come.
